Hans-Jochem Steim (born November 20, 1942 in Schramberg ) is a German entrepreneur and politician ( CDU ), member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg (1996-2006) and since 2007 an honorary citizen of his hometown Schramberg.

Professional background

After graduating from high school in Schramberg in 1961, Steim studied engineering in Frankfurt am Main , Karlsruhe and Munich . He also completed internships abroad in Sweden and Canada and as a machine cleaner on a merchant ship on the high seas. He became a member of the Corps Austria Frankfurt am Main (1961) and the Corps Isaria (1966). Steim graduated as a graduate engineer in the field of general mechanical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe in 1967 and worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Materials Science there until 1970 . In 1970 he became a Dr.-Ing. With a doctoral thesis in the field of steel hardening . PhD.

Professional Activities

Hans-Jochem Steim has been employed in the family company Kern-Liebers , today Kern-Liebers Group, in Schramberg since 1970 . The company was founded by his great-grandfather Hugo Kern in 1888 as a production facility for tension springs for the Black Forest watch industry , and in the 20th century his father, Kurt Steim, developed it into a leading company with a diverse range of products (plates for the textile industry, return springs for seat belts ). In 1991 Steim became chairman of the management board. The company has 1700 employees in Schramberg and over 5900 worldwide. Steim has been Chairman of the company's Board of Directors since July 2010. From 1975 to 1978 Steim built up the first of 50 subsidiaries in the USA .
He was President of the German and European Feather Association until 2008 and is still an honorary member of the Presidium of the German Feather Association. Steim was a member of the supervisory board until 2015 and is still a member of the advisory board of Landesbank Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart .
On February 1, 2009, Steim took over the insolvent watch manufacturer Junghans in his hometown Schramberg, the supplier of which his great-grandfather had started.
Hans-Jochem Steim was also chairman of the supervisory board and member of the advisory board at the Marquardt Group , a manufacturer of electromechanical and electronic switches and switching systems.

In 1967/1968 Steim was AStA chairman at the University of Karlsruhe and dealt critically with the sixty-eighters among his fellow students. In 1970 he became a member of the CDU. From 1971 to 1975 and 1980 to 1989 Steim was a member of the Schramberg municipal council and from 1989 to 1996 a member of the Rottweiler district council . From 1996 to 2006 he was a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg . He has been a board member of the CDU Economic Council of the Rottweil / Tuttlingen section since 1983 .

Honorary posts and honors - family

Hans-Jochem Steim was and is active in a variety of voluntary functions, for example as a board member of the Hohenkarpfen Art Foundation for the Black Forest-Baar-Heuberg region . From 1980 to 1993 Steim was youth manager of the Schwarzwaldverein local group Schramberg and has been on the board of the Red Cross , local club Schramberg since 1980 , of which 12 years second and 9 years first chairman, today honorary member. From 1980 to 2003 he was a member and at times alternating chairman of the representative assembly and the district advisory council of the AOK , Rottweil district. Steim has been an honorary citizen of the city of Schramberg since November 15, 2007. In 2014 Steim was awarded the honorary award of the German Chronometry Society for his services to the rescue of the Junghans company in Schramberg.

Hans-Jochem Steim has been widowed since 2015 and has three children. He is the son of Kurt Steim .

Steim is a passionate collector of classic cars. The Hans-Jochem-Steim-Stiftung under private law he founded has been operating a car museum in Schramberg since May 2007 with over 100, some of them very exclusive, vintage cars on 3000 m² of exhibition space. The collection includes models by Maybach , Horch , Dusenberg , Maserati , Ferrari and Lamborghini , among others . The oldest model dates from 1902. Since March 2010, the Steim car collection has appeared together with the Auto and Watch Museum and the Diesel Museum under the common name Auto & Uhrenwelt Schramberg .
