Hugo Moro

Hugo Moro (born February 17, 1865 in Villach ; † June 20, 1954 there ) was an Austrian educator and dialect poet .

Life

Hugo Moro, son of a businessman from Carnia , graduated from the teacher training college in Ljubljana . In 1884 he entered the Carinthian school service. In 1894, the 29-year-old was appointed District School Inspector of Hermagor . In 1903, Moro was transferred to Villach in the same position before he retired in 1925.

Subsequently, he worked for many years as a member of the municipal council , chairman of the school, theater and music committee and as a correspondent for the Central Commission for Art and Historical Monuments. Hugo Moro, who was honored with the title of Government Councilor, received honorary citizenship of the city of Villach in 1952 .

Hugo Moro was married to Marie, born Rieder. With her he had two daughters who became teachers and two sons, namely the folklorist Oswin and the historian Gotbert Moro . He died on June 20, 1954 at the age of 90 and was buried in the Villach forest cemetery.

Moro wrote poems in Carinthian dialect and appeared in numerous magazines, anthologies and yearbooks. Moro maintained friendly contacts with Peter Rosegger , the dialect researcher Primus Lessiak and Thomas Koschat , who set some of his texts to music.
