Hyuna (stylized spelling HyunA , real name Kim Hyun-ah , born June 6, 1992 in Seoul ) is a South Korean pop singer , rapper , dancer , designer and model . She was a founding member of the girl group 4minute , having previously been part of the group Wonder Girls . On January 4, 2010, Hyuna's first solo single Change was released in South Korea. She achieved worldwide fame in 2012 primarily through her participation in the video Gangnam Style by the K-pop singer Psy . With around 25 million records sold and a total of around four billion views of the YouTube videos in which she has already participated, she is currently one of the most successful musicians in Asia and worldwide. In June 2016 the girl group 4minute was dissolved, in August the solo album A'wesome was released .

biography

Hyuna was a founding member of the Wonder Girls in 2007 , but for health reasons she left the group while preparing for the debut album The Wonder Years . After a break of two years, she appeared in the video for Dancing Shoes by the South Korean rapper AJ and sang the 2009 song with him . On June 15, 2009, she became a member of Cube Entertainment's group 4minute . Together with UEE of After School , she sang Love Class of Mighty Mouth . She also had rap parts on Bittersweet from Brave Brothers and Nunmuldo Akkawo (" 눈물 도 아까워 "; Wasteful Tears ) from Navi. In addition, at the end of 2009 she participated together with Ga-in ( Brown Eyed Girls ), Seungyeon ( Kara ) and UEE (After School) in the 4Tomorrow group for an advertising campaign for Samsung .

From the end of 2009 to June 2010, Hyuna was a member of the reality / variety show Invincible Youth ( 청춘 불패 ) on KBS2. In this program, seven pop stars from various South Korean girl groups are farming in a small village. Due to Hyuna's tight schedule and international appearances by her band 4minute, she left the show with the Girls' Generation members Sunny and Yuri .

On January 4, 2010, Hyuna's first solo single, Change , was released in South Korea and immediately reached second place on the South Korean GAON charts. She also received the award for the most downloaded music track for the single from the South Korean GAON Music Chart.

On February 10, 2010, the single Love Parade was released digitally for download, a collaboration between Park Yun-hwa and Hyuna. On April 16, 2010 the song Outlaw in the Wild (" 황야 의 무법자 ") was released, a collaboration between Hyuna and rapper Nassun for the E-TRIBE project album by the producer duo E-Tribe. On July 5th, their first EP Bubble Pop! . She also shot the music video with K-pop singer Psy for his song Gangnam Style , which gained worldwide fame in 2012 and entered the Guinness Book of Records when the video received the most positive reviews on YouTube .

In June 2016 the band broke up for 4minute. Hyuna is now only pursuing her solo career.

In 2017 the trio Triple H was founded, consisting of Hyuna, E'Dawn (Pentagon) and Hui (Pentagon). When it became known in 2018 that Hyuna and E'Dawn were also a couple in private, the group was disbanded. In addition, both left the agency Cube Entertainment.

Since January 2019, Hyuna has been under contract with Psy's new agency P Nation.
