IC 3997 is an elliptical dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 205 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 15,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 4870 , IC 4002 , IC 4028 .
The object was discovered by Max Wolf on March 21, 1903 .
