Origin and history

In 2009, the IFA artist award emerged from its predecessor, the CeBIT artist award , which was presented in 2007 and 2008 at CeBIT (organizer: Deutsche Messe AG ) in Hanover. The initiator and organizer of both artist prizes (IFA and CeBIT) as a “cultural highlight” was the book author, presenter and Guinness record juggler Stephan Ehlers.

Art competition concept

Eight artists each had a maximum of eight minutes to convince eight jury members of their performance every eight minutes . The aim was to creatively present a term from entertainment electronics . The prize money ranged from 200 euros for 3rd place to 300 euros for 2nd place to 500 euros for 1st place. Furthermore, the top three winners received free entries in well-known artist databases and electronic labeling systems (P-Touch) from the main sponsor Brother . The jury also only had eight minutes to discuss and decide on the placements.
