iOS 4 is the fourth major version of the iOS mobile operating system for iPhone and iPad from the US company Apple Inc. and the successor to iPhone OS 3. It was presented at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference "WWDC" on June 7, 2010 and published 14 days later on June 21, 2010. This version is the first to be released under the iOS branding, which dropped the "iPhone OS" naming convention of previous versions. On October 12, 2011, it was replaced by iOS 5 on all devices except the iPhone 3G .

Innovations

The multitasking function has been introduced, which allows apps to work in the background with Internet calls, location uses or audio playback. In addition, folders have been introduced on the start screen, so that significantly more apps have space on one page. For iOS 4, the developers have also activated iBooks on the iPhone, unified the mail inbox, added a system-wide spell checker, the Game Center for social gaming and FaceTime for video calls.

Problems

iPhone 3G users complained about performance and battery issues after the iOS 4 update. Apple promised users to fix the bug in the upcoming updates.
