iOS 5 is the fifth version of iOS , the mobile operating system from Apple Inc. For the first time, like every new iOS version, the mobile operating system was introduced at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2011 at Moscone Center West on June 6, 2011.
IOS 5 was replaced by its successor iOS 6 in 2012 .
Innovations
iOS 5 has revamped the notifications as well as added the temporary banners that appear at the top of the screen. In addition, the 'Notification Center' was introduced, a central location for all notifications. It also added iCloud , a cloud storage service from Apple for syncing content and data across iCloud-enabled devices. iMessage , Apple's instant messaging service, was built in as a feature.
A good thing for many users: after the update, future software updates can be installed wirelessly, not via a computer and the iTunes multimedia software as was previously the case . An easily accessible camera shortcut has been added to the lock screen of iPads .
The Siri assistant was introduced, but was only available for the iPhone 4s .
