Ian Robertson

Ian Stuart Robertson CMG (born June 5, 1958 in Oswestry ) is a British manager and former member of the Board of Management of BMW AG . There he was responsible for sales and marketing BMW as well as for the sales channels of the BMW Group.

Career

After graduating from high school, Robertson took an interdisciplinary course in Maritime Studies at the University of Wales in Cardiff and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree . In 1979 he began his professional career as a trainee with the Rover Group . After holding various positions, he became plant manager at the Drews Lane plant in Birmingham in 1988 . From 1990 to 1991 he was Plant Manager at Powertrain and from 1991 to 1994 Head of Purchasing at the Rover Group. In 1994 the Rover Group was taken over by BMW AG . In 1994 he became managing director of Land Rover Vehicles in the group company . From 1999 to 2005 he was President of BMW South Africa, from 2005 to 2008 Chairman and Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars . On March 13, 2008, he succeeded Stefan Krause as Board Member for Sales at BMW AG. At the turn of the year 2017/18 Robertson retired. His successor as BMW sales director was Pieter Nota .

Robertson is the holder of the Order of Saints Michael and George in the Companion level .
