Icmadophila ericetorum , also known as heather , is a crusty lichen and the only European representative of the genus Icmadophila , which is currently divided into three species. The bryological-lichenological working group for Central Europe named the heather lichen lichen of the year 2016.
description
The lichen bed is crusty, light gray to greenish and poison green when wet. The pink colored fruit bodies ( apothecia ), which sit on with a narrowed base or with a short stalk, are striking .
It can be confused especially with the pink lichen ( Dibaeis baeomyces ; fruiting bodies also pink, but clearly stalked).
Occurrence
The species is circumbo-real and widespread in corresponding locations of the temperate zone to isolated in the mountains of the sub-Mediterranean region. It colonizes acidic soils, peat walls , mosses , rotten wood and damp, shaded silicate rocks .
