Fulgensia fulgens (sometimes referred to as common fire lichen ) is a rare earth-dwelling leaf lichen in Germanyfrom the Teloschistaceae family.

description

Fulgensia fulgens forms more or less rosette, white-yellow to yellow-orange colored beds , which lie close to the substrate, but are clearly and deeply lobed at the edge. Rhizines are absent. Inside, the bearing can be contiguous or cracked. Apothecia are usually present; These have an orange-brown disc with a bearing-colored edge (which can later disappear), the diameter reaches up to 1.5 mm.

distribution

The species colonizes gaps in limestone grasslands or base-rich fine soil, also open areas on loess , and can also migrate to moss. It is a type of character of the so-called "Colorful Earth Lichen Society", to which u. a. also Toninia sedifolia or Psora decipiens belong. It occurs all over the northern hemisphere, especially in the warm-toned limestone regions and the steppes of Eurasia and North America. In Germany it is generally rare and limited to warm, dry locations in summer (especially the Upper Rhine area, Main-Tauber region, Thuringia). In Europe, their area extends from England to the steppe regions of Eastern Europe and the northern Mediterranean.

Others

The bryological-lichenological working group for Central Europe named Fulgensia fulgens as lichen of the year 2011. This is to indicate the gradual disappearance of their habitat, open ground areas in the dry grass. High nutrient inputs from the air also favor the fast-growing mosses and flowering plants that overgrow the lichen lawn.
