Peltigera didactyla (Syn .: Peltigera spuria Ach. (Nyl.), Eng. Dwarf shield lichen ) is a species of leaf lichen that is widespread worldwide. She is lichen of the year 2013.
description
The top of Peltigera didactyla is gray-green, when dry it is ash-gray. The young stages are shell-shaped lobules that carry rounded sorals , in which the soredia (asexual reproductive units) are formed. In the older stage, it forms rosette beds with lobes up to 5 cm wide and the sorals disappear, instead rising brown fruiting bodies ( apothecia ) are formed at the edges. At least in the vicinity of the bearing edge, the surface is hairy with fine felts. The underside has whitish to brownish veins and rhizines .
The clearly changing appearance from the youth stage to the older stage led to the fact that Peltigera didactyla was described under different names, whose association was only recognized later: As Peltigera erumpens in the youth form with Soralen, as Peltigera hazslinszkyi with Soralen and apothecia and as Peltigera spuria only with apothecaries. The species can also easily be confused with other species of the genus Peltigera .
Peltigera didactyla is a blue-green algae, the photobiont belongs to the genus Nostoc . In addition, cephalodia present.
Occurrence
As a distinct pioneer species that often disappears quickly, Peltigera didactyla can be found, for example, on open embankments, soil-impregnated silicate rock sites, abandoned gravel pits or old fireplaces.
The species can be found cosmopolitan from the Arctic to the Antarctic and is also found in Central Europe.
