Igannaq [ iˈɣanːɑq ] (after the old spelling Igánaĸ ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the district of Kangaatsiaq in the municipality of Qeqertalik .
location
Igannaq is located at the end of a long narrow peninsula in the northwest of the island of Qeqertarsuatsiaq, only about two kilometers north of the abandoned settlement of Qeqertarsuatsiaq . The next inhabited place is Kangaatsiaq 16 km southwest.
history
Igannaq was first mentioned as inhabited in 1829 when fourteen people lived in one house. In 1831 the place was deserted again. It was not until 1902 that Igannaq was repopulated. The place was part of the Kangaatsiaq community. In 1915, ten residents were counted who lived in a house that was built as a peat wall house with internal wooden paneling and a roof made of driftwood and branches. There were four hunters, one of whom was a catechist on the side. In 1919 Igannaq was given up again.
