Aqisserniaq [ ɑˌqiˈsːɜnːiɑq ] (after the old spelling Aĸigsserniaĸ ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the district of Kangaatsiaq in the municipality of Qeqertalik .

location

Aqisserniaq is located on a small cape in the west of an extremely rugged island of the same name 7.5 km south of Attu .

history

Aqisserniaq is located in an area that was populated in the 18th century, but Aqisserniaq was first mentioned on a map by Hinrich Johannes Rink in 1862. In 1915, 73 people lived in the village, including twelve hunters, a catechist and a midwife. In 1927 a school chapel was built and later two rather large fish houses. In 1941 the residential area had 131 inhabitants and in 1950 120. In 1952 there were 29 fishermen in Aqisserniaq who caught an average of four tons of fish per person. In 1960, 155 people lived in Aqisserniaq, but in 1968 the place was given up.
