Ignaz Johann Schönbrunner (born May 1, 1835 in Vienna ; † December 5, 1900 there ) was an Austrian painter.

Ignaz Schönbrunner was the son of the carpenter Johann Schönbrunner and brother of Josef (1831–1905), Karl (1832–1877) and Franz Xaver Schönbrunner (1845–1903), all of whom were active as painters.

Schönbrunner studied with Carl Rahl from 1852 to 1858 with interruptions at the Vienna Art Academy , then from 1858 to 1864 with Joseph von Führich . In 1869 he became a member of the cooperative of visual artists (Künstlerhaus) .

In 1866 he was involved in furnishing the imperial hall, the archdukes' salon and the gallery stairs of the court opera . From 1869 to 1871 he painted the ceiling in the Schottenfelder Laurentius Church . His ceiling paintings in the waiting room of the Franz-Josephs-Bahnhof are missing.

Together with Christian Petersen , he created sgraffiti at the University of Vienna based on designs by August Eisenmenger . In the Vöslauer parish church donated by Moritz von Fries , he carried out the interior painting from 1870.

His son Ignaz (1871 – after 1943) also worked as a painter.
