Igor Olegowitsch Oschiganow ( Russian Игорь Олегович Ожиганов ; English transcription: Igor Olegovich Ozhiganov ; born October 13, 1992 in Krasnogorsk ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Ak Bars Kazan from the Continental Hockey League since May 2019 position of the defender plays.
Career
Igor Oschiganow began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of HK CSKA Moscow , for whose junior team Krasnaja Armija Moscow he was active from 2009 to 2012 in the multinational youth league Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja Liga . With the team he won the Kharlamov Cup in the 2010/11 season . At the same time he ran from 2010 to 2012 in nine games for the professional team of CSKA Moscow in the Continental Hockey League and scored two goals.
For the 2012/13 season , the defender was committed by KHL league rival Amur Khabarovsk , where he became a regular player straight away. In 49 KHL games for the club, he scored 15 points before he was brought back by ZSKA shortly before the play-offs. After the end of the season Oschiganow was exchanged together with Dmitri Kugryschew for Nikita Saizew from HK Sibir Novosibirsk . HK Sibir also received a financial compensation payment. Two years later he returned to CSKA together with Kugryschew, in return Damir Schafjarow moved to Sibir.
After the 2017/18 season , Oschiganow decided to move to North America and signed an entry-level contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs from the National Hockey League (NHL) for one year in May 2018 . After playing 53 games for the Maple Leafs, he returned to his homeland after just one year when he signed a contract with Ak Bars Kazan from the KHL in mid-May 2019 . These had only acquired his transfer rights from CSKA Moscow a few weeks earlier.
International
For Russia Oschiganow took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2012 , where he won the silver medal with his team. In addition, he contributed a hit in seven tournament appearances. The defender made his senior national team debut as part of the Euro Hockey Tour 2014/15 .
