Igriș is located about 65 kilometers northwest of Timișoara in the municipality of Sânpetru Mare and about 10 km northeast of Sânnicolau Mare . The Igriș Archipelago Nature Reserve is located on the area of ​​the village .

Igriș Monastery

The Cistercian Abbey of Egresch was also here . It was founded in 1179. The abbot Egidius von Egresch was in office here. In 1235 the King of Hungary Andrew II was buried here. It was from here that the Cistercian abbey in Kerz in Transylvania was founded.
