Ilişeşti ( German  Illischestie ) is a community consisting of the two villages Braşca and Ilişeşti in the Romanian Suceava district in the Bukowina region with the district capital Suceava . Until 2004, the municipality was called Ciprian Porumbescu , which also included the villages of Bălăceana and Ciprian Porumbescu. In 2004, however, these were split off and have since formed a separate community.

history

As part of the Josephine colonization , 12 German families were settled in Ilişeşti in the 1780s, which led to the formation of a German- speaking island with a Palatinate dialect .

After the Second World War , a significant part of the German population emigrated to Germany.

Ethnic and religious affiliation

According to the census carried out in 1930, the village population consisted of 4,228 people, of which 2030 Romanians (48.01%), 2001 Germans (47.32%), 130 Jews (3.07%), 44 Roma , 7 Armenians , 7 Czechs and Slovaks , 4 Ruthenians , 3 Poles , one Russian and one other.

According to the 1930 census, the population was divided by religious affiliation as follows: 2066 Romanian Orthodox (48.86%), 1868 Evangelical Lutheran (44.18%), 151 Catholics (3.57%), 131 Jews ( 3.09%), 7 Armenian Christians , 4 Seventh-day Adventists and 1 Greek Orthodox .

According to the 2002 census, 2693 people lived in the village. According to the 2011 census, the population rose to 2,761. Most of the population were Romanians (97.54%). Ethnicity was unknown for 1.85% of the population. Most of the residents were Orthodox Christians (85.19%), but there were also religious minorities such as followers of the Pentecostal movement (7.71%) and the Seventh-day Adventists (3.37%). In 2011, 2.1% of the population did not know their denomination.
