In Satan's Blood Rush (also known under the English title: Bay of Blood ) is an Italian horror film by the director Mario Bava from 1971. He is considered a forerunner and co-founder of the slasher film genre.

action

In an idyllic bay , the aging, wheelchair- dependent Countess Federica Donati is strangled by her husband before he too becomes the victim of a murderer. This is the prelude to a series of bloody and gruesome murders that appear to be random and incoherent. The superstitious villagers suspected an ancient curse as the background to this bloodlust.

But apparently the members of the aristocratic clan did everything they can to decimate relatives out of jealousy, revenge and financial interests. Countess Federica's son wants to avenge his mother's death, but he too becomes a victim. In the end, only two small children remain in the family - who previously shot their parents.

backgrounds

  • Total Film magazine included the film in a 2005 list of the 50 best horror films of all time.
  • Due to its supposedly "violence glorifying" character, the film was confiscated in Germany in accordance with Section 131 of the German Criminal Code ( representation of violence ).

Awards

The film received an award for “Best Special Effects” at the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema de Catalunya .
