occupation

The Ritt nach Alamo (original title: La strada per Fort Alamo ) is a spaghetti western from 1964, staged by Mario Bava . The German-language premiere took place on October 8, 1965.

action

Ex-soldier Bill finds murdered soldiers of the Union troops on his way who were supposed to fetch $ 150,000 from Wagon City. Together with young Slim and his dodgy friends, he would like to keep the money from the bank in which it is stored himself. Since the attack resulted in deaths, against which Bill and Slum resist, both are left pegged in the desert. A group of soldiers escorting a migrant hike actually mistake them for army personnel. Sergeant Warwick soon sees through the hoax, but remains silent about it, since he can use the experienced cowboys and their shooting skills for his own purposes. Bill regrets his misdeeds and tries to win the support of his new comrades and the love of the beautiful Janet through heroic behavior such as rescuing the troop from the attacks of hostile Indians through whose territory the trek leads. Slim doesn't end so happily when his former gang leader Little Kid Carson appears and has to be put down in a firefight.

criticism

The "boring" film is still clearly oriented towards the US westerns; The director Bava's penchant for colors and studio backdrops (buildings: Demofilo Fidani ) is recognizable, according to Wolfgang Luley in the text of the DVD edition. Segnalazioni Cinematigrafiche judged that it was not very original and imaginative and that it used the characters and situations typical of the genre . The Protestant film observer comes to the conclusion that the flick is a low-tension and below-average western with no entertainment value.

Remarks

Director Mario Bava, who, like almost everyone involved in the film, operates under a pseudonym, shot the best of the three westerns made by the horror film master - it was clearly not his genre.

Tony Wendall interprets the theme song The Road to Fort Alamo .
