Mario Serandrei

Mario Serandrei (born May 23, 1907 in Naples , † April 17, 1966 in Rome ) was an Italian film editor .

life and work

Serandrei began his film career in 1931 as an assistant director, but mainly gained importance through the more than 200 films in which he was responsible for editing . Most often he worked with director Luchino Visconti , among others on Die Erde quebbe (1948), Sehnsucht (1954), Rocco and his brothers (1960) and The Leopard (1963). One of his most important montages is the documentary film Who shot Salvatore G.? (1961) by Francesco Rosi .

Serandrei was occasionally active as a screenwriter and, once, as a film director for Giorni di gloria (1945) . In connection with " Ossessione " (1942) he is said to have been the first to use the term neorealism in a cinematic context.
