Impius Mundi (Latin for "the godless in the world", "godless world") is a music group from Hoya in Lower Saxony . Within the music of the Middle Ages, with bands like Ragnaröek in a similar style, they can be assigned to the classic variant of medieval rock. Other sources attribute their music to the subgenre of medieval metal because of the strong influence of rock instruments or to folk metal because of their characteristic violin and market bagpipe shares .

Impius Mundi's texts are in German. They deal with topics of the medieval way of life and reality as well as with timeless topics around the aspects of love, suffering and joie de vivre. Own texts are used almost exclusively. Traditional parts of the text can still be found in three songs from the first two albums Feuerprobe and Die Nacht .

history

The band was founded in 2006 from members of the band Comes Vagantes founded an affiliated to the Katharinenmarkt Hoya group of medieval minstrels . The name comes from Latin and freely translated means "godless world". Her first album Feuerprobe in 2009 uses many traditional medieval melodies. With one exception, which comes from the Carmina Burana , the lyrics are already original compositions, which, in the opinion of metal.de , sounded a bit toothless, but because of their medieval theme they were stimulating to listen. The Terrorverlag certifies the band for their first album compositional strength.

The second album Die Nacht was released in April 2013 . With this album, the band achieved regional and national fame and shows that they understand something of medieval rock and that their music is able to put some of the works of other bands in the shade , according to metal.de , as the pieces move forward dashed, but on the other hand also came across cautiously and almost gently ingratiatingly.

Impius Mundi played for the first time in 2013 at the Wacken Open Air , in the run-up to which the regional television of Radio Bremen broadcast a report on the band in the program buten un . At the Festival Mediaval in Selb , the largest European festival in the field of medieval music, she won the Golden Dwarf for the best newcomer band in the field of medieval rock , one of the most important music prizes for newcomers in the medieval scene . After 2011 Impius Mundi was nominated again in 2013 for her second international appearance at the international music festival in Bartoszyce, Poland.

In 2014 Impius Mundi was nominated for the second time for the Wacken Open Air and also played at the Nikolaustörn organized by the Wacken organizers together with the symphonic metal band Neopera in Hamburg . Together with bands like Saltatio Mortis , she shared the stage at the Burgfolk Festival in Mülheim an der Ruhr and with Ignis Fatuu the Tivoli in Bremen . Internationally, the band performed in 2014 at the Medieval Spectacle in St. Pölten, Austria .

In 2015 the band played for the fifth time in a row at the Roleplay Convention fair in Cologne. In summer, on the occasion of the tenth year of the band's history, the third album Decem was released , which has been distributed via the Trollzorn Records label since 2016 . At the release party, Impius Mundi played together with the bands Absence of Malice and TalentFrey . The album meets international and national and a positive response: some pieces are said to have anthemic potential. For the Sonic Seducer Impius Mundi shows with Decem a clear further development of the band, for the Orkus magazine the band clearly emerges from the genre with this album. For the MFG radio, Decem impresses with its mixture of rock and medieval. In the same year Impius Mundi played for the third time at Wacken Open Air . In the same year the band broke new ground with a choir concert, which they played together with 80 singers from the large choir of the cathedral grammar school in Verden (Aller) . This cooperation was a great regional success and underlined for the media that Impius Mundi had become a serious scene band in their ten-year history. The band was also present at the premiere of the Autumn-Moon Festival in Hameln .

The band has been under contract with Trollzorn Records since 2016 . The hurdy-gurdy player Annika Riediger, who joined the band in September 2016, left the band in April 2017.
