East Prussia Infantry Division

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The East Prussia infantry division was set up on April 17, 1944 as a so-called shadow division . It was set up at the Mielau military training area in East Prussia . The naming therefore referred to the installation region. Shadow divisions were named after the military training area (or the region in which it was located) on which they were set up, after which they were incorporated into regular existing or newly established infantry divisions. On July 3, 1944, the East Prussia Infantry Division was used to refresh the previously heavily decimated 65th Infantry Division .
