Hanover Infantry Division

The Hanover Infantry Division was set up as a so-called shadow division at the beginning of March 1945 .

The installation took place in the course of the 34th wave of installation in Wehrkreis II ( Stettin ). At the end of March the regiments of the 712th Infantry Division and the former Division zbV 606, like the other units of the division, were assigned.

It was actually planned to distribute the units to the 547th Volksgrenadier Division as a replacement for troops. However, this was canceled in mid-April and other units were used for refreshment .

The structure of the so-called division was:

  • Grenadier-Regiment Hannover 1 (from the military district XI (Hannover)), later Regiment A
  • Grenadier-Regiment Hannover 2 (from the military district IX ), later Regiment B and Grenadier-Regiment 764 (741st Infantry Division)
  • Artillery Department Hanover, later III./Artillery-Regiment 606
