The Infantry Division Mielau was the end of January 1944 as a so-called Shadow Division during the 24th installation shaft in the military district I installed. The line-up took place at the northern military training area in Mielau, East Prussia , from parts of the 151st Reserve Division that had returned from Belarus .

In early March 1944, parts were used for the 65th Infantry Division and the 121st Infantry Division . At the end of March 1944, the remainder of the division, except for the division staff, was used to refresh the heavily decimated 214th Infantry Division . The division staff was called in at the end of June 1944 for the formation of the 59th Infantry Division and the division thus dissolved.

The structure of the division was:

  • Grenadier Regiment Mielau 1
  • Grenadier Regiment Mielau 2
  • Mielau artillery department
  • Pioneer Battalion Mielau
