Inge Berndt

Inge Berndt , born as Inge Lippelt (born October 11, 1933 in Haldensleben ) is a German sports scientist , university professor and sports official . Berndt is considered a champion for women's rights in sport.

Life

Berndt's father was a dentist, after the early death of her parents she grew up with foster parents. As an active athlete, she practiced athletics and basketball . After passing the Abitur, she completed a degree in physical education and educational science at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . She then worked for three years as a research assistant at the Institute for Teacher Training in Köthen and at the Pedagogical Institute of the University of Halle. One year after the wedding with the teacher Ernst Berndt, the couple moved from the German Democratic Republic to the Federal Republic of Germany for political reasons .

In 1959 she started teaching in the state of Hesse . In 1978 Berndt completed her doctoral thesis at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . In the same year she moved to Pohlheim and got involved in TV Hausen. The subject of her dissertation was "Investigations into the development of motor skills in basketball in 11-12 year old boys as part of school sports lessons". In 1979 she took up a position as an academic adviser at the sports science faculty of Bielefeld University in the work area “sports instruction and education” headed by Dietrich Kurz . Berndt worked in Bielefeld among others with Klaus Willimczik , Walter Brehm , Klaus Roth , Ralf Laging and Eckart Balz .

From 1986 to 1998 Berndt was a member of the Presidium of the German Sports Confederation (DSB) as chair of the federal committee “Women in Sport”. Under her leadership, among other things, plans to promote women were drawn up for sports organizations, which she presented at the international level in 1995 at the World Conference on Women in Beijing . She was co-founder of the working group "European Women and Sport" in the European Sport Conference.

In 1987 Berndt was involved in the establishment of the Sports Education Section within the German Association for Sports Science (DVS). She was a member of the German Women's Council . From Friedrich Mevert Berndt was called "fighter for the interests of women in sport." In 1996 she called for a quota for women for top positions in sports associations. In 1999, Berndt resigned from the university as a senior academic at Bielefeld University.

Important topics of her sports science work were among other things "Women and girls in club sport", "Girls in young talent sport", "Sport interest and participation in sport among adolescent girls", overweight children in school sport and women in the German Sports Confederation. In 1996 she published the book "Women in Sport: Orientations - Ideas - Programs" with Ursula Voigt.
