location

The village is about two kilometers northwest of Giebelstadt and 15 kilometers south of Würzburg on a largely flat ground. history

The place name is derived from the Franconian personal name Ingold. Ingolstadt was first mentioned in writing in the 10th century on the occasion of the Babenberg feud , as a result of which the Archbishop of Mainz received the village as a gift from the East Franconian King Ludwig IV .

During the Peasants' War , Ingolstadt played a role in the regional history of Franconia in the summer of 1525 . After the Franconian farmers besieged the Marienberg Fortress in Würzburg in vain in the early summer of 1525 and some of the farmers lost the battle of Königshofen against the army of the Swabian Federation on June 2, 1525 , the last one took place in the fields between Ingolstadt and Sulzdorf on June 4 Battle of the Peasant War in Franconia. With the defeat of the peasants in this battle, the uprising of the common man ended, which had spread to almost all of southern and central Germany.

With the municipal edict, Ingolstadt belonged from 1804 as an independent municipality with its district Kauzenmühle to the district court of Würzburg on the other side of the Main. In 1862 it was assigned to the district office and later the district of Ochsenfurt , and in 1972 it returned to the district of Würzburg after its dissolution. On May 1, 1978, the community was incorporated into Giebelstadt.
