Inside Out - Ein Ingenious Bluff is a top-class action comedy by British director Peter Duffell from 1975. It is based on the fictional character of the last surviving Nazi leader imprisoned in the Allied war crimes prison in Berlin-Spandau , although it is based on the person from Rudolf Hess is unmistakable. The cinema release in the Federal Republic of Germany was on June 18, 1976.
action
In the midst of a financial bottleneck, the bon vivant Harry Morgan receives the message from an old friend from the post-war period, who proposes a fantastic coup: the prisoner in the war crimes prison in Berlin-Spandau and best guarded prisoner in the world, the only surviving former Nazi leader Reinhard Holtz, the secret of a hidden gold treasure is to be coaxed. With the help of the jewel thief Sly Wells, Morgan devises a spectacular plan of how Reinhard Holtz can be smuggled out of his prison cell unnoticed and how he can be brought to reveal the well-kept secret. But even after this succeeds, completely unexpected obstacles arise, since the gold treasure is in Wandlitz , i.e. in the Soviet-controlled east. This in turn results in further entanglements that make it much more difficult to recover the treasure. But good contacts with a GDR functionary and his connections to a high-ranking Soviet officer allow this hurdle to be overcome.
backgrounds
Some of the filming took place on original locations in West Berlin , such as in front of Tempelhof Airport , in front of the Spandau war crimes prison , at Checkpoint Charlie and on Kurfürstendamm . Typical West Berlin local color was also used in many film scenes, while the events taking place in the GDR were re -enacted.
The idea for the film is also based on the true story of Captain von Köpenick , who is also equipped with the wrong uniform and a good deal of coolness and makes rich booty.
At least in the German dubbed version, the origin of the gold bars remains contradictory: on one occasion it is said that the gold bars came from the Baltic States, while elsewhere the Balkans are mentioned as the origin.
