Ioan Mureșan

Ioan Mureșan (born September 15, 1898 in Sanislău , Sathmar County , then in Austria-Hungary ; † 1983 in Timișoara , in the Romanian Banat ) was the founder of modern surgery in Timișoara, professor and chair holder of surgery at the Medical and Pharmaceutical University of Victor Babes and head of the Clinic for Surgery II in Timișoara.

Education

Ioan Mureșan was born on September 15, 1898 in Sanislău, attended the Lyceum in Carei near Satu Mare and graduated from high school in 1916 . As a result of the chaos of the war, he was only able to start studying medicine at the newly founded Ferdinand I University in Cluj , which he completed in 1924. In March 1925 he made the doctor of medicine with the predicate "Summa cum laude".

For three years he worked as an assistant doctor at the chair of anatomy and then for a decade in the surgical clinic in Cluj ( Klausenburg ). In 1928 he moved to Bucharest , where he worked as a university lecturer in surgery. In the early thirties he went on a study trip through Europe: Vienna , Munich , Hamburg , Berlin and Paris .

After ten years of university practice, Ioan Mureșan became chief physician at the surgical department of the Bega Clinic in Timișoara, where he succeeded Aurel Cândea on April 1, 1936 . As chief physician, he carried out the clinical and surgical modernization and structural change of the hospital. He increased the surgical department from 103 to 130 beds. The departments for ear, nose and throat medicine , urology and radiology were also functionally redesigned .

With the establishment of the Medical Faculty in Timișoara on July 15, 1945, Ioan Mureșan was appointed professor and chair holder of surgery. At the same time he remained head of the Clinic for Surgery II ( Romanian: Clinica de Chirurgie II ). As a doctor , scientist and teacher , he made lasting contributions to the training of budding medical professionals. He looked after 22 generations of students. Special services, he scored in the specialized areas thyroid , esophagus , stomach - and intestinal tract , plastic and trauma surgery . Ioan Mureșan is the author of the first surgical textbooks in Timișoara and drew 84 scientific papers. Over 30 specialists and senior physicians were instructed by him, for whom he also acted as a doctoral supervisor .

Ioan Mureșan died in 1983 at the age of 85 in Timișoara after a long and serious illness.
