Pars Khodro ( Persian :پارس خودرو) is an automobile manufacturer headquartered in Tehran , Iran . The company has been part of the SAIPA Group since 1997 .

Company history

The company was founded in 1956 as the first Iranian automobile manufacturer by Jafar Akhavan under the company name Jeep Trading . In 1959, the assembly of the Jeep vehicles finally began in the factory on the ninth kilometer along Karaj Special Road , which is still the company's production site today. First in CKD - and SKD - assembly built model was the Jeep Shahbaz , who was available as a soft top as well as a hard top. The vehicles assembled in Iran can be recognized by the lettering Iran Jeep on the rear of the vehicles , later Sherkat Sahami Jeep . In 1963 the Jeep Simorgh followed , which was now completely produced in Tehran. This was available as a pick-up, ambulance and station. In 1967 the company started producing normal passenger cars with the two models Rambler Shahin and Rambler Arya . In the same year, a modernized version of the Jeep Wagoneer replaced the Simorgh under the name Jeep Aho . At the same time, the company was also renamed the Jeep Company . In 1974, however, the plant was bought by General Motors and the name was renamed Iran General Motors . It was not until 15 years later that Jeep returned to Iran with the Jeep Sahra . In 2002 this was then replaced by the second generation.

During the time under GM, the Chevrolet Iran was the first model to be replaced by the larger Chevrolet Nova two years ago . It was followed by the Buick Skylark and finally the Cadillac Civil in 1977 . In the same year there were also political disputes caused by the impending Islamic Revolution . In 1980 the assembly of the American models had to be stopped due to political pressure. 7200 vehicles of the GM group had been assembled in Iran by then. Other CKD kits, on the other hand, were stored in Canadian ports after the economic boycott of Western nations and were ultimately used as spare parts in the USA and Canada .

After all of the vehicle parts stored in their own factory had been used up, more were obtained from India . In cooperation with Mahindra & Mahindra Limited , the Tosan Commander Jeep , which corresponds to the old CJ-5 from Jeep , rolled off the production line . Another licensed product was the Spanish Land Rover Santana 88 in 1983 , an offshoot of the Land Rover Series III . In the following year, however, the production of the Nissan Patrol began . The license was bought by the state-owned National Industries Organization to Development and Renovation Organization of Iranian Industries , which ultimately placed the order for the production of the model. Since 1979, this company has also been the main shareholder in the plant. At the same time, the company name was changed to Iran Auto Making Company and then finally to the current name Pars Khodro in the following year . A short time later, the first deliveries of automotive parts from the GM group reached the plant again. At the same time, GM gave financial support, with which a second production line was built. The latest model for the Iranian market was the luxurious Chevrolet pick-up . But this has remained the last GM product from Iran to this day. It was not until 1987 that other versions for the Nissan Patrol followed with the popular station, the hardtop and the ambulance. The Nissan pick-up supplemented the model range from 1988. In the following year, the Polerban Nissan Patrol replaced the outdated generation.

When Renault became one of the most important shareholders in 1995 , SAIPA bought the Renault 5 production line , which SAIPA had been building since 1980. New model names became Renault Sepand I and Renault Sepand II . The demand for the Sepand was so high that it could not be met due to logistical difficulties. In order to solve this problem, Pars Khodro had to modernize the centralized painting line, using income from slightly increased vehicle prices. As a result of the renovation, the company ran into financial difficulties for a short time. At the same time, the Patrol optionally got the Z24 engine from the French small and super sports car manufacturer Mega Motor . In 2000 the company was finally privatized. The Sepand series was ultimately replaced by the Kia Pride and its modernized notchback variant as SAIPA 141 . In addition, the current generations of the Nissan Maxima , Nissan Pick-up and Nissan Seranza have now come onto the market. Three years later, the Nissan Roniz SUV variant followed, based on the pick-up . In summer 2004 the renovation of the painting line was successfully completed. Since then, the plant's annual production capacity has been 185,000 units. Renault then introduced the Renault Logan Tondar 90 as a new model in 2004 . With a further conversion, the capacity has now even been increased to 200,000 units, which is why the Renault Mégane and the Nissan Murano were also included in production. The Mégane is available in the versions 1600, 1600 E2 and 2000. This was followed in 2007 by the Nissan Qashqai and in 2009 as the latest model from the manufacturer, the luxurious Nissan Teana VX .
