The Nissan Xterra is an SUV that was offered by Nissan between 2005 and 2015 based on the F-Alpha platform and which has technical similarities to the Navara .

The Xterra will be built in Smyrna (Tennessee) and São José dos Pinhais in Brazil . In Iran , the vehicle is offered as Nissan Roniz and is also manufactured under license by the Iranian automobile manufacturer Pars Khodro . In China, the same car is called the Nissan Paladin . The name Xterra goes back to the name of the XTERRA off -road triathlon . Nissan was the main sponsor of this race until the end of 2006.

The first Xterra model series was introduced in the USA in model year 2000, marketed as a simple but powerful SUV and advertised with the slogan “Everything you need, nothing yon don't”. The vehicle was bought by women and men of all ages, incomes, regardless of lifestyle, but Nissan promoted the Xterra primarily as a vehicle for adventurers.

Two design details have remained unchanged since the launch: the high roof and the designed square in the sheet metal on the non- symmetrical tailgate. The high roof enables the occupants to sit in an elevated position and the bulge on the tailgate is used to accommodate the first aid kit. The Xterra was not offered in Japan or Europe; there the smaller X-Trail and the Qashqai are the entry-level vehicles in the SUV sector. In the USA, the Xterra took over this role until the introduction of the Rogue in 2008. In the Nissan model range, the Xterra is priced between the Rogue and the Murano , but is smaller than the Rogue in terms of vehicle size.

2000-2001

There were three Xterra models in the first two years. The two basic models were called XE. The Xterra is built on a truck chassis, unlike the Pathfinder with a self-supporting body. This was the only generation of vehicles that bore the Nissan logo, which was valid from the 1980s to 2001.

The cheapest version had a four-cylinder in-line engine, type KA24DE, as in the Altima and the 240SX . The 2.4 liter engine developed 143 bhp (105 kW) and was combined with a manual five-speed gearbox. The car had steel rims, equipment details such as B. Running boards and roof racks were not available.

As a rule, the Xterra XE was ordered with various additional equipment packages, such as B. a 3.3 l V6 engine with 170 bhp (125 kW) in connection with a five-speed gearbox or a 4-speed automatic, with roof rack, running boards and fabric mats. The XE equipment was the most popular version because it could be combined with many special equipment packages. A fully equipped XE had almost all the equipment details of the top model SE, but was about US $ 2,000 cheaper.

The SE was the top model in the Xterra range. All the things that could be ordered as special equipment in connection with the XE version came as standard with the SE. To differentiate a fully equipped XE from the SE, the latter was u. a. Equipped with a retractable roof, a higher quality upholstery fabric and a six-disc CD changer. In addition, various smaller equipment details such as splash protection cloths, transport trays and circulating air microfilters were also available directly from the dealers.

2002-2004

In 2002 the Xterra was revised. Inside, the dashboard and center console have been redesigned, while the biggest changes to the vehicle have been a new top-of-the-range engine and front section. In 2001 Nissan redesigned the front of the Frontier and gave it a more aggressive shape. The engine compartment was also enlarged. In 2002, Nissan revised the Xterra in a similar way, using the new 3.3 liter V6 engine with 210 bhp (154 kW). The grille received the new Nissan badge.

The color palette was also revised in 2002. The colors Aztec red and khaki were omitted, instead there were now the colors Sckock Blue, Sedona and Melted Lava. The shade atomic orange was subsequently available for a short period of time. The audio system was improved, and instead of the previous AM / FM radio with CD player, six-disc CD changer with six speakers, there was now a 300 W AM / FM radio with CD player from "Rockford Fosgate" with eight Speakers and a subwoofer that took up part of the cargo space.
