Isaac Lawrence Milliken
Isaac Lawrence Milliken (born August 29, 1815 in Saco , Massachusetts , † December 2, 1885 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an American politician . He was mayor of Chicago in 1854 and 1855.
Career
Born in what is now Maine , Isaac Milliken completed an apprenticeship in blacksmithing. From 1837 he lived in Chicago, where he ran a forge. After studying law, he was admitted to the bar. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . He was elected to the Chicago City Council twice. He also became a deputy district judge. He was also a member of his city's health committee.
In 1854, Milliken was elected mayor of Chicago. He held this position as the successor to Charles McNeill Gray for a term from 1854 to 1855. After the end of his time as mayor, he remained in the public service and became a police judge. He later switched to the Republican Party . He died in Chicago on December 2, 1885.
