Thomas Dyer (born January 13, 1805 in Canton , Connecticut , †  June 6, 1862 in Middletown , Connecticut) was an American politician . He was mayor of the city of Chicago in 1856 and 1857 .

Career

Thomas Dyer was the son of an American officer from the Revolutionary War . He initially worked in general trade. After that he was busy packing and delivering grain. He came to Chicago at an unknown time and became a member of the Democratic Party . He twice took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions . He was also founding president of the Chicago Board of Trade .

In 1856, Dyer was elected mayor of Chicago for one year. He held this office between 1856 and 1857. His term of office passed without significant events. After that, he no longer appeared politically. He died in Middletown on June 6, 1862.
