John Patrick Hopkins

John Patrick Hopkins (born October 29, 1858 in Buffalo , New York , †  October 13, 1918 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an American politician . He was mayor of Chicago from 1893 to 1895.

Career

Nothing is known about John Hopkins' youth and schooling. He came to Chicago at an unknown time. In 1880 he worked for the Pullman Palace Car Co. In 1888 he founded the Arcade Trading Co. , from which the Secord and Hopkins Co. emerged. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1892 and 1904 he took part as a delegate at the respective Democratic National Conventions .

In 1893, Hopkins was elected mayor of Chicago. He held this office between 1893 and 1895. His term of office was uneventful. He died on October 13, 1918 in Chicago of the then rampant flu.
