Thomas Linden wrote in the magazine for children's and youth literature Eselsohr : "Isabel Pin proves that you can make expressive art even for very young children, if you can." For Carola Pohlmann, head of the children's and youth book department at the State Library zu Berlin , Pin is one of “the most original and creative picture book artists of the present”. In his article on “Isabel Pins beautiful children's books”, Fabian Kettner stated: “She paints neither realistic nor absurd in order to ingratiate herself with the supposedly surrealistic nature of children. There is a main field of the picture, around which there is a lot of space, on which a few, small details can stand out. In these you will find grace and delicacy. ”Her pictures appeared“ as loving as they were interesting ”. From Pin's book A Rainy Day in the Zoo , Kettner feels reminded of the French painter and pioneer of surrealism , Henri Rousseau (1844–1910). When asked who influenced her painting style, Pin himself replied: “There are many artists who influence me in my work. But it's not necessarily just painters, it's also photographers, film directors, authors of novels and radio plays, and sometimes music inspires me too. "

More than 30 books had been published by the end of 2010, for which Pin was responsible as an illustrator and author. Her best-known books include - in addition to A Rainy Day in the Zoo - The Story of the Little Hole , which has been translated into seven languages and sold over 20,000 times. Pin worked with the children's book authors Paul Maar (* 1937), Heinz Janisch (* 1960) and Antonie Schneider (* 1954). Pin publishes in both German and French publishers. There are also translations into English, Spanish, Catalan, French, German, Korean and Chinese.

Awards

Pin has received numerous awards for her work. In 2008 she (together with Heinz Janisch) received the Austrian State Prize for Children's and Young People's Literature in the picture book category for A Cloud in My Bed . The book Der Kern , written and illustrated by Pin, received the Swiss Prix Enfantaisie in 2002 , whose jury consists of children between 7 and 10 years of age. The core is also on the recommendation list of the Catholic Children's and Young People's Book Prize, because the book - which at least has no explicit religious reference - "refers to basic ethical values as a parable". The lynx , awarded jointly by the weekly newspaper Die Zeit and Radio Bremen , was awarded to Pin in April 2006 for A Rainy Day in the Zoo and (together with Antonie Schneider) in November 2004 for Kleiner König, who are you? . In June 2008 she received (again together with Antonie Schneider) for Bananas are crooked, but not stupid the literature award Toad of the Month from the Austrian study and advice center for children's and youth literature. For this book, Pin was also awarded the 2nd Prize of the Troisdorf Picture Book Prize (shared with Maja Bohn) in 2009 . The theater playbook If I were a lion was awarded the Leipzig Reading Compass in March 2012.
