Ismael Díaz de León (born May 12, 1997 in Panama City ) is a Panamanian football player on the position of a striker . Since September 2012 he has been in the squad of Tauro FC with play in the Liga Panameña de Fútbol , the highest Panamanian professional league. In August 2015 he was awarded to the Portuguese first division club FC Porto , where he is primarily used for the second team that plays in the second-rate Segunda League .

Club career

Career start at home

Ismael Díaz was born on May 12, 1997 in the Panamanian capital and began his football career here as a child in the youth division of Tauro FC , one of the founding members of what was then ANAPROF , the highest division in the country. At the age of 15 years and 113 days, Díaz made his professional debut with the reigning champions on September 2, 2012, scored his first professional goal and subsequently sat on the bench or was used by the then coach Gonzalo Soto . By the end of Apertura 2012, Díaz made eight of 18 possible league appearances, with the team reaching sixth place in the final standings. Further appearances followed in the CONCACAF Champions League 2012/13 , in which he was used in games against Real Salt Lake and CS Herediano .

Also under Rolando "El Ñato" Palma , who exercised the coaching office from December 2012 to August 2014, Díaz came to his assignments, even if he was not in a single league game in the 2013 Clausura, but only used again in the subsequent Apertura 2013 has been. After the team had finished the Clausura 2013 after a first place at the end of the regular season and with a semi-final in the subsequent play-offs, the team around the now 16-year-old attacking player triumphed in the Apertura 2013. First place in the regular playing time was followed by a 1-0 final win over San Francisco FC in the play-offs , which meant the club's twelfth league title in the club's history. Ismael Díaz was only used in two league games, including the final, and did not score a goal herself.

In the Clausura 2014, which will take place in January 2014, Díaz was used more often again, especially between February and March, and made four league appearances by the end of the season. However, the team's performance declined compared to the previous year, with the team only ranking eighth in the final ranking and therefore not taking part in the play-offs. After clubs from abroad became more and more aware of him due to his international appearances, he completed a trial training at PSV Eindhoven in summer 2014 , but was not signed by the Dutch . Nevertheless, they wanted to keep him on the watch list and possibly sign him as an 18-year-old in the following year.

Ismael Díaz was on the way to becoming a regular in his team from Apertura 2014, in which he was used several times under the new coach Jorge Dely Valdés from the beginning and even over the full game. Under the multiple ex-national player, he made it with the team only barely the entry into the final play-offs, in which the team was just as narrowly defeated in the semifinals against Sporting San Miguelito on penalties. He was also used during this time in three games of the CONCACAF Champions League 2013/14 (1 × against Waterhouse FC and 2 × against DC United ). After another coaching change, which brought another former Panamanian international in the form of José Alfredo Poyatos at the beginning of the 2015 Clausura , but who was replaced by the US Panamanian Mike Stump after two months , Díaz and Tauro FC were back on one of the season's end rear ranks. However, he himself worked on a steady breakthrough, which he made eight league appearances and two goals this season, which he scored in two consecutive games within four days in March 2015.

Loan player in Portugal

Before his coach Mike Stump was replaced again before the beginning of Apertura 2015 and Jorge Dely Valdés took over the coaching position again, Ismael Díaz, who was observed by several European clubs due to his international appearances, switched to loan on August 14, 2015 with immediate effect Portuguese first division club FC Porto . His loan contract there runs until June 30, 2016, whereby it is intended that he should primarily be used for the second team with play in the second-rate Segunda league in order to assert himself for the first division team. The Panamanian made his league debut for FC Porto B on August 22, 2015 in a 2-1 home win over the capital city club Clube Oriental de Lisboa , when he started playing and was replaced by Rúben Macedo from the 73rd minute onwards. In the Portuguese second division he established himself under Luís Castro , under whom he is mainly used as a left winger , as one of the strongest offensive players in the league, who has led the team in first place since the eighth round. So far (as of February 24, 2016) Ismael Díaz has been used in 27 championship games, in which he scored twelve goals and prepared nine more for his teammates. Due to his success with the second team, he also played a game of the first division team in the Taça da Liga 2015/16 against FC Famalicão on January 20, 2016 , when he came on the pitch in the 79th minute for multiple Portuguese young international player André Silva . At the end of this third round, a knockout group stage, FC Porto was eliminated from the current tournament as bottom of the group.

National team career

Ismael Díaz first represented his home country through the Federación Panameña de Fútbol in 2013, when he was part of the provisional Panamanian U-17 squad , which was held in front of a home crowd at the 2013 CONCACAF U-17 Championship , the qualifying tournament of the subsequent U-17 team. Football World Cup 2013 in the United Arab Emirates , should take part, was convened. Besides Moisés Gil , Luis Zuiga from Río Abajo and club colleague Ervin Zorrilla, he was one of four participating strikers of the Panamanian team. As a national player, Díaz was used for the first time on April 6, 2013 in the first group game against the age colleagues from Jamaica . After he was also used in other subsequent international matches, he moved with the team after group victory in Group A and the quarter and semi-final wins over Trinidad and Tobago and Canada in the final against Mexico . There the Panamanians lost 1: 2, but qualified as finalists, like the other participants in places 1 to 4, for the U-17 World Cup in the Emirates. At the World Cup, he was used right from the first group game, a 2-0 defeat against the U-17 national team , but retired with the team in the group stage as the last of Group C from the current tournament. In 2013 the Cable Onda Sports Awards ( COS Awards for short ) were nominated as “Young Athlete of the Year”.

Less than a year later, the offensive player finally made his debut for the senior national team of his home country , for which he made his debut on August 20, 2014 in a friendly international match against Cuba and, like his club debut, his first goal in this 4-0 - Scored victory. Under Hernán Darío "Bolillo" Gómez he was also used the following year in a 2-0 defeat by the United States on February 8, 2015 as a replacement for Alfredo Stephens ; So far (as of February 25, 2016) this was his last appearance for the Panamanian national team. Ismael Díaz was called up to the Panama's U-20 national team for the first time in early 2015 and made his team debut under the Argentinean Leonardo Pipino as part of the 20-man squad at the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Jamaica . After the clear group victory in Group A with five wins from as many games and a goal difference of 9-0, Panama was eliminated again in the final against Mexico , but this time only on penalties. Like the rest of the teams ranked 1 to 4, Panama's U-20 team qualified for the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand . Ismael Díaz was used in the finals in Jamaica in three games of his team, in which he scored a total of four goals and he was voted as a striker in the "Best 11 of the tournament" at the end. At the World Cup finals, he came right at the start of the team on May 30, 2015 in the group game against Argentina . With the team, he then retired from the current finals as the bottom of the group. Up to this point he was used in every international match of his team, but remained goalless himself. At the beginning of January 2016 he won the award “Young Athlete of the Year” 2015 at the COS Awards .
