Isotianil can be obtained by reacting 3,4-dichloro-isothiazole-5-carboxylic acid with thionyl chloride and then coupling with 2-cyanoaniline .

use

Isotianil is used as a fungicide in rice against Magnaporthe grisea . The compound was discovered in 1997 by Bayer AG , investigated together with Sumitomo Chemical and brought onto the market in Japan and Korea in 2010.

No plant protection products containing this active ingredient are permitted in the EU or Switzerland .
