István Antal (born March 10, 1984 in Miercurea Ciuc ) is a former Romanian ice hockey player and current coach, who spent his entire active career at SC Miercurea Ciuc . Since 2014 he has been working as a youth coach at the Löwen Frankfurt .

Career

Club

István Antal, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania, has spent his entire career as an active player at SC Miercurea Ciuc . In the 2002/03 season he made his debut for the traditional Szekler club in the Romanian ice hockey league . In 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2010 he became Romanian champions with the club . In 2003, 2007, 2008 and 2010 they also won the cup . In addition, he and his team won the Pannonian League , a Southeast European ice hockey competition, in 2004 . In addition to his appearances in the Romanian league, he played with SC Miercurea Ciuc from 2006 to 2008 in the Hungarian league and then in the newly founded multinational MOL league until he retired in 2010 .

International

In the junior division, Antal, who in contrast to other Szeklers did not compete for Hungary , but for his native Romania, played at the U18 World Championships in 2000 in Europe Division 1 , in 2001 in Division III and in 2002 in Division II . With the Romanian U20 selection, he took the World Championships of Division III in 2002 and Division II in 2003 and 2004 .

He played with the Romanian men's selection at the World Championships in Division I in 2007 and 2009 . In 2010 he played with the Romanians in Division II.

Coaching career

After Antal was in charge of the Hungarian U20 team in Division II at the 2013 World Cup and a year later he was the video coach of the Hungarian U18 team at the Division I World Cup , he moved to Frankfurt / Main, where he has been training ever since Responsible for the youth teams of the Löwen Frankfurt .
