Iva Obradović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Ива Обрадовић ; born May 6, 1984 in Novi Sad ) is a former Serbian rower . She won the singles competition at the 2013 Mediterranean Games as well as two European Championship silver medals. In 2008 Obradović took part in the Summer Olympics in one.

Life

Obradović began rowing in 2001, which her father Dragan Obradović had already practiced on an international level for Yugoslavia . Before that she had practiced dance sport for more than ten years.

In 2002 Obradović took part in an international competition for the first time. At the Junior World Championships in Trakai , she rowed in the single to 14th place. At the U23 World Championships in Poznan in 2004, she won the bronze medal in the singles, the following year in Amsterdam the gold medal. At the 2005 World Rowing Championships in Gifu , which took place in the same year , she reached 10th place in one. A year later she started again at the U23 World Championships and won the silver medal in Hazewinkel . At the rowing world championships in Eton in 2006 , she finished eleventh. In 2007 she only narrowly failed at the European Championships because of the medal ranks and ended up fourth. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 in one and reached the end of eleventh place. Shortly thereafter, she started again at the European Rowing Championships in Athens in 2008 , but again just missed the medal ranks in fourth.

She started the new Olympic cycle at the 2009 World Championships in Poznan in seventh place. This was followed by an eighth place at the 2010 European Championships and sixth place at the World Championships in the same year. Together with Ivana Filipović , Obradović started in double sculls in 2011 . The duo only finished 11th at the World Championships in Bled; a few weeks, however, the team won the European championship silver medal behind the victorious Ukrainian duo. In the 2012 Olympic season, Obradović rowed again in the single, but she missed qualifying for the London Olympic Games with fifth place in the final FISA qualifying regatta in Lucerne. In September 2012 she won the silver medal behind Donata Vištartaitė from Lithuania at the European Championships in Varese .

Obradović continued her rowing career, but could not reach the final at the European Championships in Seville at the beginning of the 2013 season . After winning the single competition at the Mediterranean Games in Mersin, Turkey, she got back on board with Filipović for the World Championships in Korea, but in the belted two without a helmsman . The team reached seventh place. In 2014 Obradović started first in single, at the World Championships she rowed in two-without with Jovana Arsić to ninth place. The duo switched to the sculled double scull in the following year and reached eleventh place at the World Championships in France. In 2016, Obradović tried to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, but she missed the relevant final and was eliminated in the hope run .

Her competition weight was around 76 kg with a height of 1.87 m. She started for the Danubius VK association in 1885 in her hometown of Novi Sad and has four siblings. She received a bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2016 . During her studies, she trained in numerous college and university teams in the United States since 2005, including with members of the US national rowing team. After her active career as an athlete, Obradović became a rowing coach at UCLA Bruins in November 2016 .
