Jörg Müller-Lietzkow

Jörg Müller-Lietzkow (* May 4, 1970 in Solingen as Jörg Müller ) is a German economics and communication scientist and university professor who researches digitization issues . He has been President of HafenCity University Hamburg since July 1, 2019 .

Life

Jörg Müller attended Vogelsang grammar school in Solingen, where he graduated from high school in 1989 . He then completed an apprenticeship as a banker at Bayerische Vereinsbank in Düsseldorf (1989–1991) and did military service with Pioneer Battalion 310 in Koblenz (1991–1992). From 1992 to 1997 he studied economics at the University of Wuppertal with a degree in economics . At the same time, he trained as a badminton coach at the Cologne Coaching Academy (1993–1997), which he completed as a certified coach of the DSOB . He was the youngest certified badminton coach in Germany. From 1997 to 1998 he worked as a research assistant at the Chair for Service and Internet Economics at the University of Wuppertal and also as a project consultant at the Research Institute for Telecommunications. From 1998 to 2002 he was a research assistant and doctoral candidate at the chair for business administration, in particular human resources and organization at the University of Bamberg at Dodo zu Knyphausen-Aufseß . Here he was in 2003 with a thesis on virtualization strategies in traditional industries to Dr. rer. pole. PhD . He then worked as a research assistant to Wolfgang Seufert at the chair for communication science at the University of Jena . In 2008 he took over a newly established W2 professorship for media organization and media systems at the University of Paderborn , which was converted into a W3 professorship for media economics and media management in 2013 as part of the negotiations to stay on. In addition, he held teaching positions at other universities. From 2008 to 2015 he was Vice Dean for Research and Finance at the Faculty of Cultural Studies at the University of Paderborn. Müller-Lietzkow applied for the office of President of the University of Paderborn in 2018, but lost the election of his competitor Birgitt Riegraf .

In April 2019 he was elected President of the HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) to succeed Walter Pelka . His term of office began on July 1, 2019. At the same time, he holds a professorship for economics and digitization at the HCU.

Jörg Müller-Lietzkow has been married to Simone Lietzkow since August 2002; since then he has had the double name. The couple has a daughter.

Act

Müller-Lietzkow researches processes of digitization and virtualization under both social and economic aspects. His main research interests include the digital media economy, especially the computer game industry, the role of digital games and mobile devices in expanding society into virtual space, serious games , regional analyzes and smart cities as well as network and digital politics. At the University of Paderborn he set up the GamesLab Paderborn , which opened in 2011, which enables students to participate in long-term interdisciplinary projects in the field of game development, and initiated a partnership with the Rochester Institute of Technology . Since 2018 he has been involved in the management of the model project “Digital City Paderborn” for the university.

After taking office as President of the HafenCity University, Müller-Lietzkow declared that at the HCU, as a university for architecture and metropolitan development, he wanted to make the influence of digitization on architecture and urban planning, as well as questions of climate protection and ecological construction, key issues.

In addition to his academic activities, he was the founder and from 1999 to 2003 managing director of i-masco GmbH, a start-up company for software, media and consulting, and advised company founders within the framework of the EXIST funding program . Since 2014, the non-party Müller-Lietzkow has been one of the two spokesmen for the network policy association cnetz e. V. , which is considered close to the CDU and attests to a "bourgeois political understanding". As an expert, he often held advisory functions in politics; Among other things, in 2015 he was co-chair of the commission “Human 1.0 in digital Rhineland-Palatinate ”, which advised the CDU Rhineland-Palatinate, in 2018 a member of the “Medien-Digital-Land NRW” advisory board of the North Rhine-Westphalian state government and was one of the authors of the digital charter innovation platform: D , which was adopted at the 32nd CDU party conference in Leipzig 2019. Since September 2018, Müller-Lietzkow has been a member of the “Artificial Intelligence” study commission of the German Bundestag.

As chairman of the sponsoring association Konfuzius-Freunde Westfalen e. V., he was instrumental in founding the Confucius Institute Paderborn in 2015, of which he was Managing Director and German Director from 2016 to 2018.

Müller-Lietzkow worked for a total of 15 years as a professional badminton coach. From 2006 to 2009 he was a teaching supervisor on the Presidium of the Thuringian Badminton Association. He campaigned early on for the recognition of e-sports as a sport and advocated the establishment of professional training structures in e-sports.

Politically, Müller-Lietzkow took a clear position against the AfD and for help for refugees.
