Jörg Wartenberg (born May 21, 1981 in Cottbus ) is a German ice hockey player who is under contract with the Saale Bulls in Halle (Saale) in the summer of 2015 .

Career

Jörg Wartenberg comes from the youth of ES Weißwasser , for which he went through all youth teams. He made his first appearance in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 1999/2000 season , but played mainly for the junior team until 2001. “Bodo”, as he is called in the team circle, had finally made the breakthrough in the Füchse team in the 2002/03 season, as did Robert Bartlick . Through consistent, uncompromising body play he was able to earn the respect of his teammates and also the opponents.

Two years earlier, he was introduced to the professional squad by the former coach Weissgerber and mainly deployed alongside the already experienced players Tomasz Mieszkowski and Torsten Hanusch , in order to do his work and gain experience in the defense network of the foxes. Due to the good performance in the second division season 2002/03 , scouts of the Hamburg Freezers became aware of Wartenberg, but in the end there was no granting license . The Füchse team was relegated to the league this season - in the following league season they missed promotion in the play-offs ( the Füchse were only able to rise again after EC Bad Nauheim withdrew ). He remained loyal to the Foxes as a solid stay-at-home defender until the end of the 2005/06 season .

He then completed two seasons with the Dresdner Eislöwen and the Heilbronner Falken in the 2nd Bundesliga . In June 2009 he was signed by the upper division EHC Dortmund , but returned to the Eislöwen in summer 2010. After a season in Dresden, in which he reached the play-off semi-finals with the Eislöwen, Wartenberg returned to his home club in Weißwasser for family reasons. He has been playing for the Saale Bulls since the 2015/16 season .
