history

The Jewish cemetery in Trittenheim is a reminder of the 200-year history of Judaism in this place. From around 1896 to 1938 it was the church's yard for the Jewish community. The dead of the Jewish community in Trittenheim were previously buried in the surrounding Jewish cemeteries, especially the Jewish cemetery in Leiwen and the Jewish cemetery in Dhron . In the 1890s, the Trittenheim Jewish community acquired 2.99 acres of land in the "second forest ditch" to set up its own cemetery. The cemetery was occupied from around 1898/99 to 1939. The cemetery was desecrated during the National Socialist era and in 1992. Today there are 19 tombstones ( Mazewot ) that are oriented towards Jerusalem according to old tradition.
