Jürgen Miethke (bank manager)

Jürgen Miethke (born February 27, 1935 in Schleswig ) is a former German bank manager . From 1974 to 1999 he was President of the Savings Banks and Giro Association for Schleswig-Holstein .

Life

Miethke studied law and was on the 1964 University of Kiel with the thesis "The Group and the right of the restrictions" doctorate . In addition to his 25 years as President of the Savings Banks and Giro Association for Schleswig-Holstein, he was for many years Vice President of the German Savings Banks and Giro Association .

Jürgen Miethke has been involved in voluntary work in the fields of art , culture and history for many years . In 1978 he was a co-founder of the Schleswig-Holstein Monument Fund Association , which promotes the maintenance of cultural monuments, and was its chairman from 1980 to 2004. In 1983 he founded the Friends of Antiquity Association to promote the collection of antiquities at the Kunsthalle Kiel , of which he was chairman until 1997. In addition, he was a board member of the Schleswig-Holstein State Museum Association from 1984 to 2004 , and contributed to making the Schleswig-Holstein Open-Air Museum in Molfsee one of the most successful museums in the state. In addition, from 1996 to 2004 he was chairman of the Freundeskreis Schloss Gottorf , which supports the work of the Schleswig-Holstein State Museum for Art and Cultural History .

Honors

In 2003 Jürgen Miethke was awarded the honorary professorship of Schleswig-Holstein by the Schleswig-Holstein Prime Minister Heide Simonis for “his long-term commitment in the fields of art, culture and history” .

Since 2009, the Schleswig-Holstein University Society, whose President Miethke was from 1990 to 2005, has been awarding the Professor Miethke Prize named after him, endowed with 3000   euros, “to promote professional and research engagement outside of universities and research institutions in Schleswig-Holstein ".

In 2018, Miethke was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Schleswig-Holstein by Prime Minister Daniel Günther for his more than three decades of commitment to cultural life in Schleswig-Holstein .
