Jěwa Wórša Lanzyna (German Eva-Ursula Lange ; born September 11, 1928 in Niederkaina , † December 20, 2020 ) was a Sorbian painter , graphic artist , ceramist and book designer .

life and work

Lanzyna grew up in Bautzen . After attending primary school, she completed a pottery apprenticeship in Görlitz from 1945 to 1948 and studied at the University of Applied Arts in Prague in 1950 and at the Leipzig University of Graphics and Book Art from 1951 to 1956 . She then worked from 1956 to 1958 as a book designer at Volk und Wissen Verlag and from 1958 to 1962 at Domowina Verlag . Since 1962 she has been working as a freelance artist and between 1978 and 1990 she was chairwoman of the working group of Sorbian visual artists.

In 1974 she took part with Měrćin Nowak-Njechorński and Jan Buck at the VII Congress of the Association of Fine Artists of the GDR in Karl-Marx-Stadt .

In 2003, on the occasion of her 75th birthday, the Sorbian Artists Association organized an exhibition and a festive event in the baroque Neschwitz Castle , at which Jurij Koch gave the laudation. On the occasion of her 80th birthday the event Eva-Ursula Lange took place in September 2008 in the Wendisches Museum Cottbus . Artist in conversation instead, as an accompaniment to the then special exhibition Weltsprache Wendisch - Literature, Art .

She took part in the exhibition Legendary - Encounters with Midday Woman, Aquarius and other mysterious journeymen in Hoyerswerda Castle with a series of clay lutches . One of her works in public space is the stele on the former ballroom and society house in Hoyerswerda , which commemorates the founding of the Domowina in 1912.

The artist lived and worked in Baruth near Bautzen . She died in December 2020 at the age of 92 as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
