The JN Köbig GmbH (proper spelling: JN Köbig GmbH , registered company name JNKöbig GmbH ) is a medium-sized German trading company for building needs in the areas of civil engineering , building construction and drywall , landscaping , tiling and building services (plumbing / heating). history

The origins of the Köbig company are in Bad Kreuznach in 1852 . At this point in time, Nikolaus Schröder founded a workshop for working marble . His wife came from the Koebig family. Her nephew Johann Nikolaus Köbig took over the company after 8 years in 1860. Because the business flourished, trading in building materials was also started. A spatial expansion became necessary. On April 1, 1890, the company bought the Heidelberg oven factory in Mainz. In the same year the company name was changed to Ofenfabrik JN Köbig GmbH .

After Wilhelm Köbig and his co-partner Heinrich Köhler in the 1920s and 1930s, Köbig's son-in-law Heinz Thurn and Köhler's successor Rudolf Schmitt followed. It was the time after the complete destruction of Mainz in February 1945 , when 90% of the Köbig stockpiles were victims of the fire caused by the hail of bombs. In 1952 a new building took place on Rheinallee in Mainz-Mombach .

Heinz Thurn's daughter Helga (from 1945) and son Hans-Jürgen (from 1957; together with Rolf Ollig) was followed by the fourth generation of the family. Hans-Jürgen Thurn's sons Stefan and Markus Thurn took over the management of the company in 1996 as the fifth generation. Stefan Thurn has also been President of the Federal Association of German Building Material Dealers since 2009 .

In 1969 the first bathroom and tile exhibition in the Rhine-Main area was inaugurated . In 1997 (company Motzbäuchel, Bürstadt) and 2013 (company Ries, Darmstadt) expansion took place through company takeovers. At the turn of the millennium, the tile and sanitary exhibition opened in the "House of Tiles" in Hanauer Landstrasse in Frankfurt. In 2003 (opening of the tile logistics center ), 2010 (opening of the Köbig BauPark with 4,000 m² of exhibition space) and 2016 (building services central warehouse in Mainz-Hechtsheim with 25,500 m² of floor space), extensive investments were made at the headquarters in Mainz. The first Köbig Energy Center was opened in Bad Kreuznach in 2011. In 2015, the 125th anniversary of JN Köbig GmbH was celebrated.
