Bishop Jacek Jezierski

Jacek Jezierski (born December 23, 1949 in Olsztyn ) is a Catholic clergyman and bishop of Elbląg .

Life

Jezierski studied theology at the seminary in Olsztyn (1967-1974), where he was on 16 June 1974 by Bishop Józef Drzazga for ordained priests . He continued his theological studies at the Catholic University of Lublin (1978–1981) and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1981–1982) and graduated in 1986 with a doctorate in Lublin .

From 1977–1981 he was the pastor of the deaf and blind in Elbląg . Since 1982 he has been working at the seminary in Olsztyn and since 1999 lecturer at the theological faculty of the newly founded University of Warmia-Masuria . His research focused on the history of dogma , the teaching and person of Cardinal Stanislaus Hosius and theology of the Reformation .

On February 19, 1994 he was appointed auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Warmia and titular bishop of Liberalia . The Primate of Poland, Cardinal Józef Glemp donated him episcopal ordination on March 5, 1994 . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Warmia, Edmund Piszcz , and the Archbishop of Danzig , Tadeusz Gocłowski CM . His motto is Veritas Christi Liberat (“The truth of Christ liberates”).

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Elbląg on May 10, 2014 .

Pope Francis appointed him on August 13, 2020 in addition to the Apostolic Administrator of the vacant Archdiocese of Gdansk.

Jezierski is Chairman of the Caritas Committee of the Polish Bishops' Conference and Chairman of the Working Committee for the Dialogue of the Roman Catholic Church with the Polish Catholic Church .
