Jacob's Ladder is a song by Huey Lewis and the News from the year 1986 , that of Bruce Hornsby was written and his brother John Hornsby. It appeared on the album Fore! .
history
After the album was released as the third single in January 1987, the title became increasingly successful and reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in March 1987 . It was the band's third number one success in the United States.
The action described in the song takes place in Birmingham , Alabama . The song combines the biblical image of Jacob's ladder with a protagonist who has to fight day after day in his life:
- Step by step, one by one, higher and higher
- Step by step, rung by rung, climbing Jacob's ladder.
The live version of the song The Heart of Rock & Roll appeared on the B-side of the single .
Bruce Hornsby later recorded his own version of the song, but it was less pop- oriented. This version appeared on his 1988 album Scenes from the Southside . He also took the song into his concert repertoire.
The music video shows the band performing the song at a concert.
