The Mönchbruch Hunting Lodge was built by Landgrave Ernst-Ludwig von Hessen-Darmstadt around 1730 in the center of Mönchbruch . It is located on the north side of today's B 486 in the middle between Mörfelden and the Rüsselsheim district of Haßloch .

Ernst-Ludwig was an avid hunter who had introduced parforce hunting in Darmstadt in 1708 . The master builder Colonel Helfrich Müller (1686–1759) from Giessen drew the plans for the hunting lodge. In addition to six mansions, the ensemble also included stables, coach houses and various outbuildings.

Three of the residential buildings were auctioned for demolition around 1850 and rebuilt elsewhere in the Groß-Gerau district . As early as 1855, however, Ludwig III. restore the facility and set up a chief forester's office in it.

In 1932, the voluntary labor service introduced under Reich Chancellor Heinrich Brüning moved into Mönchbruch quarters, and under the National Socialists the Reich Labor Service . After it was used as a retirement home and asylum seeker accommodation, foreign construction workers were housed in the hunting lodge until the beginning of 2003.

The Mönchbruch Hunting Lodge has been privately owned since 1999 and is currently being renovated. The first section was completed in December 2008.

All measures follow the recognized principles of monument preservation in close consultation with the monument protection authority and the State Office for Monument Preservation .

The pavilions belonging to the hunting lodge will be refurbished for use as guest houses in accordance with their baroque design and will join the existing Mönchbruchmühle hotel. The middle pavilion is to be used as a branch of the Mörfelden-Walldorf registry office and an ecumenical chapel . At the same time, preparations are underway for the conversion of the economic wing on the street for event halls, conference rooms and hotel rooms. The draft for this was already approved in summer 2008 by the representatives for monument protection and preservation involved. The annual “Castle Garden Festival” was created out of the idea of making the progress of the ongoing renovation work and planning accessible to the interested public at all times.
