Jakob Albrecht von Birkhahn (born April 22, 1733 in Kirsteinsdorf , Osterode district in East Prussia , † June 14, 1801 in Neustadt in Upper Silesia ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the cuirassier regiment "von Mengden" .

Life

origin

His parents were the Saxon-Polish captain Christoph Wilhelm von Birkhahn (* 1701; † August 1756), heir to Kirsteinsdorf, and his wife Maria Dorothea, born von der Groeben († January 1737) from the Beeslack family, widow of Christoph Fabian von Auerswald († 1728) and daughter of General Georg Heinrich von der Groeben . His father later married Charlotte von Ciesielski († July 13, 1759) from the House of Sydden. District administrator Wilhelm Boguslaw Ernst von Birkhahn (1744-1819) comes from this marriage.

Military career

In 1751 Birkhahn was employed as a standard junker in the cuirassier regiment "Graf Geßler" and on August 21, 1756, a cornet . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles of Prague , Breslau , Leuthen , Hochkirch Torgau and Freiberg . In the meantime, Birkhahn had been promoted to lieutenant on February 10, 1758.

After the war, he was promoted to staff officer on April 30, 1764 and rose to Rittmeister and company commander on September 30, 1772 . On February 25, 1778 he became a major and as such took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On May 29, 1787 he rose to lieutenant colonel , on May 31 to colonel and on August 25, 1789 he was commander of the cuirassier regiment "von Mengden". On the occasion of the review of August 27, 1789, Birkhahn received the order Pour le Mérite , and on January 6, 1794, he was promoted to major general. On August 11, 1796, he received his resignation and a pension of 600 thalers .

He was the owner of the goods Sakrau and Oberwitz (Groß-Strelitz district), which he sold to the Strachwitz district deputy in 1788.

family

Birkhahn married Juliane Maximiliane von Boyen on October 12, 1774 in Neustadt (* March 13, 1756 - May 25, 1817), daughter of Colonel von Boyen from the cuirassier regiment No. 4. The couple had several children:
