Jakob Bürgler

Jakob Bürgler (born August 13, 1967 in Lienz ) is an Austrian Roman Catholic priest . From 2016 to 2017 he was diocesan administrator of the Diocese of Innsbruck .

Life

After graduating from the Lienz high school in 1985, Bürgler studied philosophy and theology at the University of Innsbruck (Mag. Theol.) Until 1992 . In 1992 he worked as a journalist for the church newspaper of the Diocese of Innsbruck. He then lived for a year with the ecumenical Communauté de Taizé in France. After being ordained a priest on June 12, 1994 in Innsbruck Cathedral by Innsbruck Bishop Reinhold Stecher , he was a cooperator in St. Nikolaus in Hall in Tyrol for two years and from 1996 to 2005 elementary school teacher and pastor in St. Martin in Wängle and parish moderator in Lechaschau .

Manfred Scheuer , Bishop of the Diocese of Innsbruck , appointed him on September 1, 2005 as his vicar general and thus as successor to Ernst Jäger . Bürgler is also chairman of the priestly council of the Innsbruck diocese. On September 12, 2005 he was solemnly inducted into his new office by Diocesan Bishop Manfred Scheuer in the Cathedral of St. Jakob . He was founded in 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI. accepted into the papal family as a papal honorary chaplain .

Jakob Bürgler has been an honorary member of the Teutonia Innsbruck student association in the Mittelschüler-Kartell-Verband since 2013 and has been a liaison pastor since then.

Jakob Bürgler is involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . In 2015 he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick Cardinal O'Brien and on September 26, 2015 in the parish church of St. Martin in Dornbirn by the provost of Herzogenburg Monastery , Maximilian Fürnsinn CanReg , Honorary Grand Prior of the Austrian Lieutenancy, invested in the Papal Lay Order.

On January 18, 2016, he was elected diocesan administrator by the college of consultors . He held this office until Hermann Glettler became Bishop of Innsbruck on December 2, 2017.

Jakob Bürgler's brother Bernhard Bürgler SJ has been Provincial of the Jesuit Order in Austria since 2014 ; his sister Maria was the head of the Bildungshaus Osttirol for many years.
