Jakob Wilhelm Reichert (born March 13, 1885 in Boxberg ; † January 17, 1948 in Berlin ) was a German economist, association official and politician (DNVP).

Live and act

Jakob Wilhelm Reichert was born the son of a postman . After attending elementary school in Boxberg and grammar schools in Wertheim and Mannheim , Reichert studied economics at the universities of Heidelberg , Munich, Rostock and Berlin. In 1908 he completed his studies in Heidelberg with a doctoral thesis on savings in the city of Mannheim . From 1908 to 1912 he worked as a scientific assistant for the Chamber of Commerce in Duisburg . He then became a syndic in the service of the same institution.

In 1912 Reichert became general manager of the Association of German Iron and Steel Manufacturers in Berlin. In the context of this activity, which he was to exercise until it was brought into line in 1935, he acted as an intermediary between heavy industry in the Ruhr area and financial and commercial circles in Berlin. Publicist added Reichert his work by publishing in Dusseldorf appearing magazine steel and iron : in this, and other organs, he published on economic, reparations essays, transport and social policy issues. For the iron and steel sector, but also beyond, he earned the status of a cartel expert .

From 1914 to 1920 Reichert headed the central office for export licenses for iron and steel products. During the First World War he distinguished himself in particular through his support for the annexation of the French ore mines in Longwy and Briey , which he declared as absolutely necessary for the German iron and steel industry .

After the war, Reichert officiated from 1920 to 1924 as Reich plenipotentiary of the foreign trade office for iron and steel products in Berlin.

Politically committed Reichert is part of the German National People's Party (DNVP). From 1920 to 1930 ( first , second , third and fourth legislature ) he sat for this as MP for the constituency 31 (Dresden-Bautzen) in the Reichstag . In the Reichstag he mainly dealt with currency and customs issues, the reparation problem as well as with trade and economic issues . In 1930 Reichert left the party rejecting the course of the party leadership around Alfred Hugenberg and joined the People's Conservative Association as a co-founder . In the same year he became a member of the Provisional Reich Economic Council .

From 1935 to 1945 Reichert was the general manager of the Iron and Steel Industry Economic Group (formerly the Association of German Iron and Steel Industries ) in Berlin. His influence declined during this time; he was not included in the "Reichsvereinigung Eisen" (RVE) founded in May 1942, probably also because he was not a member of the NSDAP . Hermann Röchling became RVE chairman . As a specialist journalist, Reichert was still in demand.

From August 26, 1946 to October 4, 1947, Reichert was in Nuremberg in custody at the Flick trial and the Krupp trial .

In January 1948 he committed suicide .
